Preventive Services and Periodontal Treatment
We consider dental cleaning appointments as one of the most important experiences you will have in our office. This is where we can evaluate your dental health, see what’s going on and determine any problems when they are small, before they grow and become more expensive to treat.
At Andover Smiles, we are at the forefront of current treatment practices. Once new technology has been scientifically proven and accepted by the appropriate authorities, we have no hesitation in investing and incorporating this technology into our exceptional level of care. We are excited to announce the use of a new diagnostic instrument for the detection of cavities called DIAGNOdent.
Diagnodent, approved by the FDA and the ADA (American Dental Association) for the detection of beginning stages of tooth decay, is a hand-held laser. It reports a numerical and audio scale which will inform us to the severity of the tooth decay lesion. It will be used in addition to radiographs (x-rays) for the diagnosis of cavities for our patients to ensure optimum dental care.
Piezo Scaler – We use an electronic scaler that releases medicaments, little tubes of antibacterial medicine, in the periodontal pockets with gum disease.

Laser Gingival Contouring
Even if your teeth are white and perfectly aligned, excessive gums can hide a beautiful smile. And gums that are uneven can give the illusion that your teeth are misshaped or misaligned when they are, in fact, in excellent condition. Lasers, the latest advancement in gum contouring, offer a fast fix with a short recovery period and little or no discomfort. Combining technical skill with an artistic eye, Dr. Rinaldi can reposition the gum line or even it out to create a natural and attractive smile.
What Is Gum Contouring?
Gum contouring is a cosmetic treatment to correct problems with gums and improve the smile. Treatable issues include:
Excessive Gum Tissue: This occurs when gum tissue overhangs a significant part of the tooth, making the smile look “gummy.” A jagged gum line can create the illusion that teeth are misshapen or out of alignment. Smoothing out the gum line creates a natural, sculpted frame for teeth.
In laser gum contouring, also called gingival contouring, a laser is used to sculpt the gum line for a more pleasing look. Excessive gums can be reduced to more appropriate proportions. Or, in the case of a jagged gum line, the shape of the gum line can be “redrawn” to smooth it out.
Restorative and Cosmetic Dentistry
Dr. Rinaldi focuses his family dental practice on cosmetic dentistry. Not only has he taken many courses on cosmetic dentistry, but he has lectured internationally on various aspects of cosmetic dentistry, teaching other dentists how to create beautiful smiles for their patients.
- Smile Makeover
Great care is taken to design your smile. After we understand your needs and goals, we consider the shape of your face, color of your eyes, and the shape and contour of your lips. We evaluate factors like the symmetry of your eyes and nose to the other dimensions. Once you have your new smile, your confidence soars.
